Department of Corrosion and Corrosion Protection Technologies
The Department of Corrosion and Corrosion Protection Technologies (in 1999–2013 – IMP Corrosion Centre) conducts research, education and standardisation activities designed to reduce the economic losses caused by corrosion.
The Department prepares reports and conducts R&D and implementation activities related to the selection and assessment of corrosion protection technologies, coating selection and testing of coating properties. Important activities of the Department include research on the deterioration of metals and alloys. Coating properties are assessed both in natural conditions and laboratory conditions. The results of such activities are used to develop and implement new technologies and solve problems with corrosion in various branches of the economy.
Other important activities of the Department include research on the modification of metal surface using conversion coatings and derived coatings produced in chemical and electrochemical processes as well as thermal spraying technologies.
The Department comprises the following units:
– Laboratory of Electrochemical Corrosion Testing;
– Laboratory of Atmospheric Corrosion Testing;
– Laboratory of Thermal Spraying.
